Watch Demonstrations, Join the Fun, Learn a new skill or craft! Refine skills you already have! Or, just come and enjoy the company of history loving folks! We always enjoy visiting with area friends about the history of this area.

Pre-registration is requested but not required for any classes.  All events – rain or shine.

2017 Schedule

 

June 25, Sunday, 1-4pm:

Bring the family and attend our special event, a Pie Baking Contest and Pie Auction, plus instructional classes for everyone.  Pre-registration for classes requested but not required.  All events – rain or shine.

Special Event
Pie Baking Contest
:  Four categories:  1) Fruit (any fruit pie),  2) Non-refrigerated cream, pudding or jell (sugar cream, rhubarb cream, peanut butter, lemon, etc.),  3) Miscellaneous (mincemeat, pecan, etc.), 4) Any vintage pie from pre-1900 recipe.

Pie Contest Rules:

No entry fee. Public is invited to participate.
Participant must complete application form with name, address, phone and email if available.
Pies accepted for judging from 12:30p to 1p on the day of the event.
Participant must bake of the 2 same pies; 1 for contest and 1 for auction. Single use (like aluminum) pans are recommended.
No glass, metal or any other kind of pan will be returned.
Participant must provide recipe for contest.  Recipe must be picked up that day or it will be destroyed. 
Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & Grand Champion Pie. Ribbons.  
Ribbons awarder to the first three places in each of the four pie categories. All participants receive a ribbon for entering 2 pies.
Pies entered in the contest will be cut and sold @ $2 per slice when judging is over.

Pie Auction: 
 Participant does not have to be in contest to bring a pie for the auction.  No refrigerated pies.
Use disposable, single use pie plates. Glass plates (or any other type) will not be returned.
 
Join Mike and Wes Weimer, auctioneeers, for an afternoon of fun and take home a pie for the family.

Antique, Collectibles & Miscellaneous Auction:
Antiques and collectibles from Stones Trace Museum, along with donated items will be auctioned immediately after the pie auction.
Join us for an afternoon of fun and bring home a new treasure.

Workshop Classes:
Baking Bread
Enjoy the pleasure of fresh baked bread after learning the fundamental skills from Vicki Becker. You will learn how to make and bake bread in the Stones Trace outdoor masonry oven.
Youth 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies: $3.

Gourd Bird House / Log Suet Feeder
Charles Sweeney, Instructor, will assist participants to make a gourd bird house ready for painting and occupancy or to make a suet feeder - participants choice. All ages. Supplies: $3.

Hypertufa (artificial stone planter)
Sarah Weeks, Noble County Master Gardener, will guide participants through the process of making a hypertufa (artificial stone) container, popularly used for alpine style planting troughs, fairy gardens and succulents. 
Total class size is limited to 8 participants. Bring a large garbage bag & rubber gloves. Supplies: $7.

Fly Tying
Henry "Butch" Kolb will instruct on basic fly tying. Relax while fly casting for pan fish at your favorite fishing spot using flies you have created.
Youth 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies: $5.

Watercolor Painting
Returning artist, Susan Brandes, will conduct a session in beginning watercolor techniques. 
Youth 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies: $5.

July 23, Sunday, 1-4pm:

Special Event
Regulators Open Shoot:
A great time to learn the skill of shooting a black powder firearm. No cost to the participant. 

Workshop Classes:
Blacksmithing
Instructor, Brandon Oswald and Bruce Teegarden will guide you through the historical background and forging process of making a metal twisted "S"-hook.  No open toe footwear.  Shorts are discouraged. Minimum age requirement is 14. Ages 14-17 must have a responsible adult present for permission to participate.  Supplies – $5.

Growing and Cooking With Herbs
Join Liz Lightner, longtime Noble County Master Gardener, to learn how to grow and enhance your cooking with herbs. Food tasting, herb samples and plants available to purchase. No age limit. Supplies: No cost.

Stained Glass
Instructor John Miretti will guide participants in the process of making a stained glass article. Must be 12 years or older to participate. Supplies: $7.

Penny Rugs
Join instructor Donna Carmean in making a penny rug. Penny rugs date back to the 1800's. They are a testament to the thriftiness and creative artistry of women in that time. Pennies were used as a template and the cut fabric was designed into an artful furniture or bed covering.
Youth 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies: $3.
